Pints Per Minute?

Ok so I am winterizing the boat for my first time (next year I do the stabilizer first).

I have already done the wheel bearings however I had not ran the engine with stabilizer in the tank, oops to late to put back in the water. I have now added the stabilizer and driven around the neighborhood and local school speed bumps for around 30 minutes (to shake up the new mixture).

Anyone have any idea on how long I need to idle this GM 4.3 two barrel carb to burn out the gas in the carburetor bowl, quart sized fuel filter and the fuel line to be sure I get stabilizer into the carburetor?

Anyone know a formula for how much gas a GM 4.3 or any engine for that matter, burns per minute?

Personally...I believe that ANYONE who'd put their boat away for the winter during one of the best boating months in our great Pacific Northwest...is just a bit off their rocker! Why in fact, it's supposed to be nearly 80 degrees by this coming Sunday.

Anyway...if you haven't changed your engine oil yet, you'll want to do that before you put her away. So go ahead and fire her up on the hose, and by the time she reaches operating temp...you'll surely have stabilized fuel throughout the engine.

By the way...did you read my recent post regarding winterizing with the fuel tank empty? "Has Walt gone completely mad?"

Headin' to the lake this weekend...c'mon down!!

Walt

Ah, Walter..
Thanks for the info about the weather here in our grand Northwest.. As far as the rocker goes I jumped off along time ago, remember high school bud. Seems like I read an article by you about being a bit "Mad" yourself, interesting post by the way, I am storing dry instead of full like I was going to do.

Also please remember that not all of us are fortunate enough to have the luxury of winterizing and storing our toys inside, out of the environment, thus some of those 80º days need to be used for preparation. I want to put her under cover dry.

The bit about the oil change was interesting; I changed the oil at the start of the season and was planning on changing at the start of next season. I suppose optimum would be to change at the start and the end but if a person was to do it once a year is it better at the start or the end?

Appreciate the weekend lake trip invite, what a minute are you guys still painting…. Anyway we have soccer and scouts so doubt if we will make it this time, thanks again.

Doc

If you change the oil/filter when you winterize...then there's no need to change it again at the beginning of next season. And it's advisable to change it at the end of the season so to store it with fresh, clean oil throughout. Also, you might wanna consider changing the outdrive gear lube too. This is recommended in the event water is present...it won't attack your gears, bearings etc...

Have fun!

Walt
