Piston Rings Top vs. Bottom

Got this out on another thread with no results.
Received a set of rings for a 3 cylinder. 6 rings at 2 per piston.
All 6 rings are tapered to what appear to be the same dimensions.
3 are black, completely black, probably from heat treat.
3 are black with the outer edge exposed in silver.
Is this supposed to indicate a top vs. bottom?

What brand rings?

Put the black one in bottom groove and silver it top groove
