pitting on ****er housing...normal

took the lower end off and removed shifter seal boot and found some oxidation and looks like pitting. is this normal? or is it just manufactured like that. The motor is a 73 rude 50hp.

That normal pitting from being left in water all the time or brackish water use.

It took yours 35 years to get like that. Not bad. Around here one or two years will do it. (Gulf of Mexico salt)
