That is if I can find the right one for it. and does any one have a manual for this motor they want to get rid of.

You and I have engines that are very similar to one another if not the same, mine is a 507x7b (1987). I got my manual (clymer) off of ebay for $11.99 plus $5 to ship. Looked like it was hardly used. This pin you talk about, could it be the lock/release pin to tilt the motor?

Hello no it is a screw on the lower gear housing not oil drain but little screw on the lower end gear case.
in the onwer's manual they call it a clutch pin Page 34. again a 1885/86 model # 507x6a serial # 2300 50 HP motor.
thank you for the reply

Re: Pivot pin or clutch pin

Are you talking about part number 29 in this diagram? If so the only for sure way to tell if it is installed correctly is to take the lower unit apart and put it back in correctly. It is called the gear shift arm pivot pin. If the motor has been shifted since the screw has been out the alignment is all messed up. If this is run and it is not correct your lower unit could grenade on you. Either take it apart or take it to a pro and have them look at it.

Re: Pivot pin or clutch pin

Thank you, that is it and that is what I thought I had to be done to get it back in. I still will need to get a repair manual. I will be doing this today.
PS. by the way how does your motor run? mine will be pushing a 14 foot Capri just for fishing. No need to go fast.
Thank you for all the info, I am sure I will have more questions later.

You will need to order part number 41 at a minimum if you dont buy a complete seal kit. Part number is 25-841807 and it looks like Mercury still sells them cost is $3.00. I cant help you on speed questions for I have a chrysler not a force but I would think you should be able to get close to 30 mph on that motor if boat is not too heavy.
