I've been a member for some time and am finally getting ready to start my project boat which is a Century Coronado Cardel. In reading the forums, I see many references to something called PL. With the trend to use letters instead of words lately, I'm curious what is PL? Is it a polyurethane adhesive or is it Loctite PL or something else?

You are correct @ PL.

I think Loctite is named PL, like CocaCola, but other brands sell it as Polyurethane Adhesive, Cola or ask for a Coke & get a Pepsi.....

Where do you plan to use it

I know my answer will raise some issues but I'm planning on using it between the hull and the stringers. I've heard some use it for that but make mention of the long time for it to cure, I'm not concerned with that as I'm taking a long time to do this. Since the original stringers were just glassed in place on one side only with nothing between the hull and stringer, I figure whatever I do will be much better. Thanks for the information by the way.

PL Premium is often used for that. The only concern, as you already know, is the time it takes to cure and off gas. As long as you don't mind waiting 4-6 days, there isn't a problem with it. Lots of restos here have used it.

I used it to bond 2 pieces of 3/4 ply together for the transom of my project. Lots of people have used it. I did a test piece and tried to break it apart, the wood broke before the bond did. Most peoples complaints are the curing time. You can bond the stringers then once cured use thickened resin for the filets. Some people use PL for the fillets but I have also heard people getting issues with air bubbles (possibly not a full cure before glass)
