Placement of batteries

I am thinking about re-locating the position of my trolling battery to under the drivers console. Does anyone know of a reason NOT to do this.

I figure that my trolling battery powers my trolling motor and a few electronics such as bilge and livewell pump. all of these are controlled by switches on the dash, so the cable run would be jus under the dash. My reason to do this is to free-up some space under the splashwell for another gas tank.

thanks.

Re: Placement of batteries

Batteries cn be heavy and actually cause a smaller boat to list one way or the other. I would not imagine its a concern, but keep that in mind. Some people have been known to add another battery to offset the weight, others just try to center it. Some simply dont care. For the most part, its your call.

Re: Placement of batteries

heiliges is exactly correct. A small boat is extremely sensitive to weight distribution and, due to its weight, batteries should be located so the boat will trim level L-R and F-R when loaded with fuel and people.
The same can be said about portable fuel tanks.
With proper trim the boat will run most efficiently and handle the best.
