I've recently got my boat going, well, sort of. I've got a 14' Chrysler boat, fiberglass, with a 35 horse Johnson Sea Horse... the motor runs, but it comes out of drive, and,,, How do I get my boat to plane? the Adjustment on the motor mount itself is set as close to the boat as possible.. Could it be the prop size? could it be the motor isn't running at full tilt? Please Help

model # on the seahorse. could be spun prop, or worse worn clutch dog, it also could be streched cables not putting the motor all the way in gear. disconnect cable at engine, and put in gear, and see if it stays.

RDE 19, I believe to be a 1957 35 horse.... You've also given me info on my 1956 30 horse Javelin, thank you for your response..... I have taken the cable off, but, it still pops out of drive.....

If it's actually jumping out of gear under load, then it's a bad clutch dog. The only fix is to replace it or replace the whole lower unit. Those parts can be tough to find on an older engine, but there are tons of used lower units around. Check with tcoutboards.com. You'll have to call or email them to get the info.

When you do, have the model number of your engine handy.

CATransplant, what IS the lower unit, is it the very lower portion of the shaft, or midway up? I've got two places to take it apart,, guess I should get a manual, on the count that I dont even know where the clutch is... Seriously, I didn't know it had a clutch, I thought in gear was in gear????

thank you for your response......
