Plane Out

I have a 16' Bass Pro Legend that has a 60 HP Johnson Seahorse. It is rated for four people and a 75HP Max. My question is when I have four people in the boat it will not plane out. Is this because the motor is not big enough? Or, is there something that I can do to improve plane out with max persons in the boat. Top-in speed is 27mph with two people and about 10 mph with four people.<br />Any information is appreciated.

hummm how do you have the weight in the boat have you tryed moving people around? also does the boat have a hydrofoil on it? i had to add 1 to mine and it worked like a charm

Is your engine running OK?<br /><br />How many rpm's will it turn at wide open throttle?

It does have a hydrofoil on it. After I found out it would not plane out I moved everybody to ther rear of the steering wheel, helped a little not much.

If your prop pitch is above 15" on a 16 footer driven by a 60hp with four passengers it'll likely bog down.With a low hp to weight ratio you may find that you'll need an optional prop depending on number of passengers and gear.Need to know what your RPMs are at WOT with a light load.

gousha,<br /><br />Actually, moving people/gear rearward makes the situation worse.<br /><br />I think you are overpropped. That is if the engine is healthy.<br /><br />If it is overpropped, the engine won't stay healthy very long.

I have a 16 ft bass tracker with a 50 hp evinrude.<br />top end with 1 person 42mph, with 4 people top end 34 mph. it planes out a little slower with 4 people, but still works great.<br /><br />you have a prop or engine problem
