Re: Plasma vs. LCD

I've had my 50" LG 720p set for months but did not have HD service. Since our Dish Network contract was up, Mrs. i386 got on the phone and negotiated a sweet new deal with DirecTV. This included an HD DVR. Anyway, we are just now getting to enjoy HD on our TV. It looks amazing.

Also with the 1080p and 720p thing... unless you're watching true 1080p DVDs or you subscribe to one of the few true 1080p dishnet channels, 720p is the way to go. The difference really is negligible to the human eye. Also, I'd say 99% of TV providers won't provide full 1080p for years and years yet. Even the 1080p that dishnet claims they give you, I'm still VERY skeptical about.

1080p is worth it if you have a blu-ray player (which are now very reasonably priced). If you never plan on getting one of those then you are correct 720p is a good choice since TV won't be broadcast that way for a long time and most people cannot see the difference on anything below 42".

I would pay more attention to the hz ratings when buying an LCD more than anything else. You absolutely can see the difference between 60hz, 120hz and 240hz side by side...............

Totally agree... 60Hz would kill me. I'm one of those unlucky people that can see 60Hz flicker ugggghhhh.
