I replaced my boards last year with new Treatedwood and carpet and secured them down with 4 lag bolts per column. Well the boards are already getting loose and when I try to tighten up the lag bolts it just spins. The boards are now shifting and the boat is sitting a "tad off" I was wondering if anybody has used the plastic lumber Plasteak and countersunk through bolts and nuts for a good secure fit. This way it would never ever rot again and with the bolts it would be good. Would I still have to cover the plasteak with carpet? It would run me about 190 bucks for 4 bunks. 2 12 foot sections and 2 8 foot sections. My trailer has welded mounting posts with 4 holts per post. Non adjustable.

Re: PlasTeak Bunks?

Have you considered stainless steel, bronze (not brass!) or hot dipped galvanized carriage bolts countersunk to just clear the dome of the heads?

The above fasteners can be found at a big box store if you want speed, but I imagine that here at iBoats they would be less expensive and give our host a boost.:D

The countersink for the heads can simply be a spade drill of he right size. A very inexpensive fix.
