plastic omc fuel tank

good day all: my problem is i think that there is supposed to be a vent in this tank.what happened is my outboard engine died a fair ways out on lake erie,when i went to pump the bulb and it woudnt take fuel,then i opened the cap and there was vacume in the tank.is there supposed to be a vent in the cap,or is it somewhere else on the tank(in the e-f mechanism). thanks Z

should have a vent in tank or on cap. unless it it the old pressurized system.<br />if you didnt burn it up atleast you know your fuel pump was working.

if theres no vent in the cap (like my omc tank)<br />you can just open the cap slightly to let air in

The tank should vent through the two prong connection.
