Re: Playoff picks

That's the Wikipedia version. The actual reason reported in NY circles is Archie did his homework and felt Eli would be a poor fit at SD. Eli is a pocket guy and not very nimble or stout. SD offense was going "west coast" and needed a mobile qb to be effective. SD made no efforts to beef up the O line and Archie feared his son would suffer. Rivers health kinda proves Archie knows his stuff. New York Giants run a conventional offense with emphasis on a solid line. " If given the opportunity, Eli could be the next Phil Simms" was a quote I remember floatin around. They are very similar in style and lack of mobility.
Regardless, if a kid outa school has the best grades and is very desirable, he will receive the most offers and will grab the one that fits him best. Eli had that type of opportunity and took it. I have more contempt for the long term employee who jumps ship for a thicker wallet.
I am not privy to all the goings on behind the scene, and I'm sure its a bit shady, but Eli didn't come to the Giants for money or their record, but for an opportunity to cut his teeth in an offense that fit his style and wouldn't get him killed. I have no issue with that decision. If an unproven player has the influence to force franchises to deal, then let the buyer beware and so be it. I'm sure for the last 3 years nobody thought the Giants made the right move.
Anyway, the purists (including me) must realize the NFL is a business, BIG business, and the purity has been erased by the moguls.
I just am a GIANTS fan. Others can debate the backoffice politics, I just care what's going on between the goalposts.
"The League" doesn't exist anymore. Now it's the agent, endorsement, contract.......
Enjoy the game and again, if I offended, my apologies.
