Re: Playoff picks

Never thought I would say this......but I want the Patriots to absolutely demolish the Giants.

I cannot stand guys like Eli Manning, who without playing a down in the league want to dictate where they play. I disliked Elway for that same reason.

How naive a statement...............

Eli (Mr. Eli to you!!!) was traded. He had no say in the deal. If any franchise wants a player, THEY make the deal. Could he turn down the deal, not sure. But since he had no allegiance to any team, why wouldn't a draft pick go with the best deal offered?????

In 1993, Reggie White left the eagles for the tundra when he was their franchise player for the money. Are these the type of people you want your children to look up to?????

The year before, didn't the pack give up a first-round pick to the falcons for Favre????

Welcome to the NFL buddie... deal with it

I'll chalk it up to venting, a little ignorance, and sour grapes.

Packer fans are better than that..... don't ruin it

I'm not sure I see where I was naive......did you watch that draft at all?? Eli had no say?? As I recall.....and you can feel free to correct me if I am wrong....Days before the draft, Chargers general manager A. J. Smith announced that Eli Manning and his representative Tom Condon informed the Chargers organization that if Manning was drafted by the Chargers, he would not sign. Manning described his refusal to play for San Diego was a result of feeling that San Diego would not be conducive to his future.

That is 100% different than the Falcons trading Favre. Thats the typical NFL trade. White and Favre never "demanded" the trades.....and White had played in the NFL and earned the right to make such a move. Eli had not even taken an NFL snap yet. He had EVERYTHING to do with that trade. He was the SOLE reason it happened. If it wasnt for ELI, you'd have loud mouthed Rivers as your QB.....and that is THE reason.

I have no sour grapes over yesterday. I expressed my opinion about a player I choose not to like, and thats it. IMHO it is disrespectful of the game to come into the league in that manner.

Sorry, I tend to get defensive when MY GIANTS are the subject and "demolish" and "can't stand" are the modifiers. After reading my reply again it does sound a bit harsh. If I offended, I apologize.........

That's the Wikipedia version. The actual reason reported in NY circles is Archie did his homework and felt Eli would be a poor fit at SD. Eli is a pocket guy and not very nimble or stout. SD offense was going "west coast" and needed a mobile qb to be effective. SD made no efforts to beef up the O line and Archie feared his son would suffer. Rivers health kinda proves Archie knows his stuff. New York Giants run a conventional offense with emphasis on a solid line. " If given the opportunity, Eli could be the next Phil Simms" was a quote I remember floatin around. They are very similar in style and lack of mobility.
Regardless, if a kid outa school has the best grades and is very desirable, he will receive the most offers and will grab the one that fits him best. Eli had that type of opportunity and took it. I have more contempt for the long term employee who jumps ship for a thicker wallet.
I am not privy to all the goings on behind the scene, and I'm sure its a bit shady, but Eli didn't come to the Giants for money or their record, but for an opportunity to cut his teeth in an offense that fit his style and wouldn't get him killed. I have no issue with that decision. If an unproven player has the influence to force franchises to deal, then let the buyer beware and so be it. I'm sure for the last 3 years nobody thought the Giants made the right move.

Anyway, the purists (including me) must realize the NFL is a business, BIG business, and the purity has been erased by the moguls.

I just am a GIANTS fan. Others can debate the backoffice politics, I just care what's going on between the goalposts.

"The League" doesn't exist anymore. Now it's the agent, endorsement, contract.......

Enjoy the game and again, if I offended, my apologies.

OK! First off, I guess every team beat themselves against the Giants:confused:. Yea rite! Can you say Number one rated Defence. Yea thats rite. When you have a defence that can put that much preassure on the offence they will make mistakes and bad plays. Romo and farve have been used to having more time to make plays. The Giants just brought it. Nuff said.

Lets not forget that the patriots barely squeeked by the Giandts last time they played.

GO Giants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!;)
