Sounds like it's running on less than all cylinders or missing badly on one. SLOW doesn't cause motor to do all that shaking.

It sounds to me like your dropping one cylinder at higher RPM. It could be a coil dropping out, a bad plug, or one carb not working properly.

What I'm looking for is for someone that knows what SLOW looks like to verify if this is or is not SLOW.

SLOW being Speed Limiting Overheat Warning that limits rpms to 2500 and apparently causes that shake and sputter when you try to go over.

I'm looking for someone that knows to say either yes or no if it looks like SLOW,

Previous posters are correct. I saw the vid.

Troubleshooting diagnosis shouldn't consist of 'could be, might be, maybe'

speculation will not show where the problem is, you need a timing light to find the bad coil , then swap it with a good coil and see if the problem follows the coil.

If none of the cyls drops spark on the timing light you can try spraying fuel into each carb to find which one is starving for fuel.

If you think the heat sensor is shorted out, wheres the beeper?
I guess you could unplug the sensor and give it a go, if that fixes it , you still need to get the warning buzzer fixed. Sounds like a good runner otherwise.

In each part of your video the engine accelerates slightly in the second before it begins to sputter; are you doing that or is it the engine? That is what an engine does when it starts to run very lean.

BTW, S.L.O.W. does not recover on the fly, you have to cool the engine to 162 degrees F and turn the ignition off to run normally again.

I'm doing that.

Running slow, give it some gas, it starts to sputter. back off and it runs perfect. give it throttle and it sputters again. and so on and so on....

Starts, idles, drives at slow speed perfectly.

Re: Is this SLOW? Video....

Again, it looks to me like your running at about 1800 rpm under light load, when you load the motor or accelerate, it's either leaning out or dropping a coil or plug. Both can be affected by load and RPM, I've had many engines run fine at idle or low rpm, yet break up and shudder when under load or accelerated.
You need to determine whether it's fuel or spark that's causing it to drop a cylinder, a timing light is a good suggestion to check for spark. If you don't see the spark drop out on one of the coils, try as suggested above and spray some fuel mix into each carb to see if that smooths out the engine. It's not a rev limiter issue, you have a problem and it will takes some hands on diagnosis to find it.

Well, I know that it's not fuel. Carbs just rebuilt, new gas lines, new tank, no difference when the bulb is pumped.

I'm going to launch this morning and disconnect my temp switch and see what happens. If it works, then it's the switch. If not, I'll check into the coils and other parts.

More to come.....

If I remember correctly that motor doesn't have SLOW. But that's not how SLOW acts anyway, that's a miss. On a 2 cylinder motor a miss will make the motor shake pretty violently. Think about it, you're losing and getting back 50% power in an instant.

If the motor had SLOW and it kicks in, it will not come out of SLOW until you stop the motor and restart it. It will not turn on and off like that.

Re: Is this SLOW? Video....

I have a 6hp motor that has the same problem. I runs but has no power and it shakes unbelievably. I removed the coils and saw that one was broken in 2 (the plastic shell) I am waiting for a new one (actually 2) to arrive so could that be it or could it be something else?

Thank you, that was a great description of SLOW. So that's not it.

I just had the boat out this morning to test pulling the plug from the temp switch. It made no difference. I'm going to post a final summary thread with everything that has happened up until now. Hoping that we can get to the bottom of this, but like a couple of you had said already, it could likely be a coil or something.

Stay tuned......

Check the wires from the stator to the powerpack, sometimes they rub the bracket that holds the powerpack. Check the powerpack ground.

Take a timing light with you and check fire to each cyl, if firing ok check carbs.
