I just recently bought a 1971 chrysler sport fury with a 60hp johnson outboard on it . I just took it home threw some new plugs in it and got it to fire. since then i took it out on the little lake near my house just to run some fuel threw it and see how she runs . well i found out it didn't run very good. i wasn't able to get it to idle without dying also while trying to cruise across the lake it would bog down. Now i have it at home and i ran a few test on the motor to try and diagnose the problem. I ran a compression check and starting from the top cylinder they read(top,135p.s.i middle 145p.s.i bottom 145p.s.i) I checked all three for spark and they have spark. now when i run it on the dog ears I seem to get a a lot of popping noise while running. also still wont idle. the other thing that has me really confused is the top plug when i pull the boot off while its running will change tone. the middle boot doese'nt do anything, and the bottom boot really bogs the motor. does anyone have any idea what is wrong or what i should do . please help me its killing my summer. thanks for any and all comments

plug wire removal suggests fuel delivery problem middle cylinder worst top 2nd and sounds like the lonely bottom cylinder is whats makin it run at all would suggest starting with good carb clean/overhaul but before teardown try spraying a lil carb cleaner in the top and middle carbs it should perk up and if so spray a bit around the gaskets on intake side make sure u dont have a dried up gasket sucking air somewhere that will give u headaches once the carbs are fixed
