i recently bought a 1988 18' procraft with a mariner 175 that was running fine on the test run (about 35 min) then the following day after purchase i took it out and it ran fine for another 40 min then when any throttle is applied it wont push any rpms and if you give it to much it dies it will idle fine..then after idleing back to the launch it came to life fore about 5 min then back to rough.. what i did was bought a new tank and hooked up new gas and disconnected all the carb bowl screws and pumped gas out in case of water..

then i sprayed deep creep in the spark plug holes and left it overnight.. this morning i took the boat out and started it and fogged it with deep creep lots of smoke and seemed to run good but seemed like once the seafoam was out of the motor it was bogging again so i changed the plugs but and sprayed more seafoam boat came to life for about a mile then back.. what do i do next rebuild/clean carb or move somewhere else..id hate to have to pay someone to do it but im intimidated by the task. if i did pay someone to do this how much would it cost? i also removed the fuel filter and it had no resistance i could look right through it could this be the culprit?

Thanks in advance

Sounds more like a electrical problem, such as a bad pack. Need to get you a manual to start checking things.

would a bad pack cause the boat to run fine intermittently then bog?

Remove air box [carb cover] run motor in gear at 2000 rpm and put your hand over top carb, then middle, bottom carb see if rpm picks up. sounds like a lean condition! good luck ed r
