Hi,
I just bought a used trolling motor and need a little help pinning down a model, a year, etc. There is no model or serial number anywhere that I can find. From the seller, I expected a 12V/24V option, but there does not appear to be any switch. As this is an older motor, it is certainly possible that the foot pedal has been modded or replaced and the 12/24 switch is supposed to be there, but isn't. I am attaching several pictures. Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: please help ID motorguide trolling motor

A little more description. This is a cable-steer, foot-controlled, bow mount motor. There are only two wires (red and black) coming out of the foot pedal for battery hook-up.

But going from the foot pedal to the motor in the heavy black-sheathed control cable assembly, there are: 1) the steering cable; 2) a black ~10 gauge wire; 3) a red ~10 gauge wire; 4) an orange ~12 gauge wire; and 5) red, black, and green ~18 gauge wires in a gray sheath.

Going from the circuit board down the shaft to the motor itself, there are: 1) yellow, black, orange, red and green (all ~10 gauge); and 2) a white ~18 gauge. Also coming up from the shaft but not connected to anything is a red ~18 gauge wire.

If not a definitive ID, maybe somebody can figure out whether this is 12V, 24V, or switchable judging by the wiring and wire colors? Or even just a guess as to the year or a range of years?

early 90's, should be similar to the 765, I believe.
trying to remember when the discontinued that foot pedal that also had to be in the early 90's.
That is a straight 24v setup. Does it run?

The rocker switch on the foot pedal should be a 3 position switch. Momentary-Constant-High bypass

Re: please help ID motorguide trolling motor

Thanks, trumanlake! (I'm a Missouri guy and fish Truman Lake from time to time -- if that's the reference in your name.) It appears to work. The prop spins freely, and runs when the switch on the pedal is pushed down. I could not really see a difference in prop speed when I turned the dial, but maybe that's because I had it on 12V instead of 24V? I don't think the rocker works like that -- I think it's a straight on/off: on when pressed, off when not. So you think this is a diagram that's pretty close: http://www.mikesreelrepair.com/schematics/albums/motorguide/bow_mount/765.pdf

Yep, name pretty much describes it (sterett creek). Go ahead and hook it up to 24v and see what you got. Hopefully the driver board and the Mosfet's are ok. Most of the electronics are discontinued for those older ones. Used to have the service center here for motorguide, may still have some old stuff boxed up somewhere if you need.
