All,
Been told that the Evinrude is is a 1948 Light Four.

Elgin my friend believes is a 7.2hp...Did elgin make a 7.2?

Do either of these have parts available?...Not seeing much in the sierra/mallory catalogs...I may pass these up completely as I am in the middle of a Fleetwin purchase (my era, type, and what I was looking for when this fell in my lap)....Price for the elgin and evinrude is a combo price and seems very reasonable to me....If anyone needs a part unit or something to tinker on for fun....let me know as I will pass the contact info on...hate to see them scrapped.

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks for any info....

The Lightfour is a relatively desirable motor. Smooth runners, decent power. Carbs can be fussy, but when set up correctly they work fine. Generally don't need much in the way of tune-up stuff for them as the basics (gaskets) can be made, and a dressing of the points is usually all that's needed for the magneto.

For the Elgin, looks like a 6hp. Common motor (sold by Sears & Row-Back), some guys like to collect them, but they're not super valuable or anything. Nice enough motors, but nothing that really draws the collector crowd...
