what are the numbers on the silver disc. called a welch plug. if it hasn't been changed it should have model and serial number on it. post those numbers.

1950-51 TN-25
TN-26
TN-27
1952-53 TN-28

These are the only year's where the 5hp sea-horse had the round cowling.

Does it look anything like this?
sea-horse5.jpg

BTW......the Old OMC site has lots of photo's, there are 2 whole pages of user contributed images of motors they have restored... as well as brochures and/or full catalouges for almost every year from the 40's through to the 70's. Just use the navigation bar on the left hand side of the site.

Tash.......if this motor was manufactured in Australia at OMC's Bankstown factory, there's a good chance the freeze plug will only have a serial number on it. I have several old OMC engines that came from that factory and none of them have the model number on the freeze plug.

Re: please help johnson big id problem

There were lots of Johnnys with the throttle lever.
As Lark posted. If I recall These motors had the number on the right side stamped into the lower part of the power head just under the edge of the cowl.It will have a circular mixture/primer knob on the left of the top cover.
Could be TD15 TD20,Tn 25,26,27,28. 41 -53.Any of these models 53 back to the earliest motors would have a throttle lever. If you give us a detailed description it would help a picture would be great but needs special procedure to post.Don't be afraid to do a long post the more detail the better.

Re: please help johnson big id problem

sorry mate, that is only the serial number. The A at the start means it was made in Australia. Aside from that....it won't help us much more. There isn't any way really to date an engine based on that alone.

Is there any numbers on the transom clamp? a small black (sometimes white... depends on the color of the motor )metal plate?

do you have a digital camera? if so.. take a pic and email it to me, my email is in my profile, just click my user name "lark2004" over on the left, and you will see it.
