Hi guys,

I must apologize for adding to the multitude of posts asking for the year of their Mariner. HOWEVER I have searched the internet for days and maybe I'm using the wrong keywords - I just can't crack it. I have also read about 1,000 threads on and I cannot find where someone leaves a link that works to where they find this information out.

So like the rest... here is my serial number: 0 B 211923 (first character being zero). I need the year, make, model... or anything else you can tell me about this model. It should be a 25hp Mariner.

And if someone has a website where they are getting this info... please post it so others can help themselves.

Many Many Thanks for your help!

Best

Nick

Nick....

Welcome to iBoats....

Your engine is a 1987 Mariner 25M. That is, it's a short shaft (15"), manual (pull) start....

Not a website, a program....

That's just crazy how they are so secretive about what motor you have... I don't understand the strategy there... Evinrude lets you querey old motors right on their website. Maybe Merc has done some not so savory things in the past causing them to have to create ambiguity when it comes to identifying their motors... This would be interesting research....

Do you happen to know what the piston compression should be on this model? Ya know when you pop the spark plugs and attache a pressure meter and give it a few pulls?.. Just looking for the PSI that it SHOULD BE. :) Many Thanks

Merc are no more secretive about parts and the like... They just don't use year models for parts look up, they use the serial number... Go to any on-line parts supplier and you'll find they require the serial number of an engine, not the year.... Only SOME of the aftermarket parts are done by year, but most are by serial number.

No ambiguity... Merc even started putting the year on the serial number decal in the mid 90's.... More than the rude one ever did! I believe they STILL don't mark up the engine with the year... You have to use some secretive code to allow the engine to 'introduce' itself to you.... What a load of cr**!
