I have searched but cannot find the exact instructions for THIS model. I also have went to the local library to find a manual and they seem to have the manual for every engine ever made except this one.

Can someone please explain to me the exact method to remove the lower unit from this 1970 Merc 7.5 thunderbolt?

I would be ever so grateful.

Look at this site and with a bit of common sense you should be just fine:

http://www.mercruiserparts.com/selectDocs.asp?doc_nbr=13716

Few words of advice:

(1) make sure that the water tube goen in the waterpump when re-assembling

(2) make sure the reverse gear in in place (spine smaller rod)

(3) once the watertube and reverse are in place, twist the propeller and that will allow you to easely allow your drive shaft in place

(4) seal the water tube and gourment with Aviation type sealant

(5) have fun fishing!
