We need to create a new top for the Cobalt pictured below. The hull is white with broad black field fields and red pinstripe accents. The interior is light grey and white with black and red accents.

I think we're going to go with a traditional soft top that snaps to the windshield for better protection during summer squalls and while camping, instead of a bimini top.

Thanks for your input!

Red fades, White is hard on the eyes, Black will actually feel the coolest as the shade will be the darkest, but I am voting grey as I assume you are in a more northern climate and simply want the best overall selection. A strong second for the black though and it would look better.

That's exactly what I was thinking, too!

white is always a good choice, matches everything. they gray would look good, but will it match the gray of the upolstery. that is like reds, some look good together, others look line heck.

I have a White and Black Chaparral and I have the black canvas package including the Bimini. It looks awesome and cleans up great too. Rather than going with a traditional top that snaps to the windshield have you thought about a Bimini that has a snap on Isinglass windshield that attaches to the windshield and Bimini. That is what I have and it is great because you get the protection when you want it but have lots of headroom when you don't. The tops that snap to the windshield really limit the headroom near the front of the cabin.

Cool idea, superpop! I'm going to give that one great consideration, too.

Thanks for the replies, everybody. Hope your holiday festivities are shaping up this weekend.

TOTALLY agree with superpop on the windshield. This will be the most costly option, but very flexible, and ultimately the right way to do it ;)

I'd consider where you're boating and what the environment is like when choosing a good color, followed by what looks good with the hull and interior.

For me, I boat near some taconite (iron ore) processing plants that put a red dust into the air all the time. So any top will be coated with the stuff after a few days on the water. White would look awful.

It's mostly the same concerns that apply to furniture... how fast it shows dirt, etc.

A solid color will influence the perception of the other colors on/in the boat, so if you think your interior is too dark/light/pink/whatever, here's your chance to change the look without changing the carpet.

The isinglass extension is a good idea... the head room is nice. Pay the extra bucks for the thicker plastic.. the thinner the plastic, the harder it is to see through.
