I did hundreds of carb jobs in my life. This one is kicking my butt and its a small motor. Its a 1987 20hp. I rebuilt the carb and cleaned them up. The engine is running to rich. Did put in new needle and seat. I run the motor in gear and cant get to plain unless i Pinch the fuel line and make the bowl low on fuel. once it gets low, It jumps up in rpm and halls. If the bowl get filled up so far it wont wind out. The needle is seated. Float height is good. I pump primer bulb no fuel come out of needle. No fuel leaking anywhere. Fuel pump is good and working, No fuel leaking into crankcase from fuel pump pos neg pressure. Never had a problem with too much fuel with all the motors I worked on. I need to lean it out and all I can think is the main jet, too big. I cant believe this little thing is kicking my butt. Oh compression is 70 on both. 100 percent sure carbs are clean. It was a yard sale motor with no history.

There are apparently a lot of people out there that think that all you need to do to increase hp is to put bigger jets in the carb (or drill them out), you may have purchased your motor from one of these people. There should have been a number stamped on the main jet, 120 is standard but it's available from 115 to 130 to adjust for altitude.

Looked at the carb some more found a cracked in the plastic venturi piece that run threw the emulsion tube. On the top is a crack witch will give it more fuel and flood her out at high rpm. Just got to order parts now.
