please help to identify my motor

hi everyone. i have a kicker on my boat. it is a 5 hp mariner, single cylinder 2 stroke. it looks to be early to late 90's. the only identification i could find on it is on a round silver disk about the size of a loonie. it is located on the right side of the block if looking at it from in the boat. it reads "A883801". i have tried searching online but i can not find the year of it.

i am looking for a charging system to add on to it because i use it 10 times more than my big motor, and it would be nice to keep the battery topped up for the tunes. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

I think that the stator kit is only available for 6 hp and up, not sure.

There are a number of sites that list model/year information for various brands, most of these sites are listed under the FAQ section of iboats. Sometimes you need to use multiple sites and do some creative interpretation.

You will need this :

• 16837A2 STATOR KIT-LIGHT $42.96
• 16838A4 RECTIFIER KIT $87.95

Should be available from any Mercury dealer .

thanks soo much. man you guys are great. what a wealth of information around here. i will order those parts on monday.

i am assuming that this charging kit will only be a small trickle while trolling but at least if i kill my battery i should be able to run the kicker for a little while to build up the battery enough to start the big one.

do you know by any chance the approximate output of this system? i am going to try to search for some info on it later when i have time.
