Your old Merc should have a molded quick connect at the motor. I would not expect the new control to have such a thing. The easiest way to connect them is to reuse the old plug (female) from the boat harness. Use some butt joints and solder them to the harness and plug pigtail. Cover with shrink tube and electrical tape.
The wiring harness colors are also different. The motor should have yellow(starter Solenoid), black(ground), red(battery), grey(choke), orange(ign killer), brown(tach signal) and maybe white(+12Vdc ignition).
The control wire colors are yellow/red(starter solenoid), black(ground), red(battery), yellow/black(Choke), Black/yellow (ign killer), grey(tach signal) and purple(ign power)
If you have PTT the wire colors are green for down and blue for up. They will not be included in the motor harness.
