Hello everyone, I am redoing my 16' Jon Boat. I built new decks and stuff in her. My problem is that im ready to carpet now and just cant figure out how you would cut the carpet to fit inside the deck lid openings. I figured out the cuts on the lids but the deck openings I just cant figure out. Any help would be greatly appreciated........

I cant get pics to upload but my problem is in the corners of the hatch openings. No matter how you cut the carpet it will leave a gap in the corners. There must be some secret to the corners on cutting the carpet. I hope that helps you understand.

Not really---- I cut mine about 2" wider than the top- glued it on & let it dry- then cut a straight cut on each corner & lapped & glued & CLOSED & WEIGHTED down the lid, covered up nice - When it's dry pick up the lid & trim - the fabric, weaves or watever you call it will cover the seam if you take your time & cut carefull ;)

Ok here are the pics. Im talking about carpeting the deck lid openings on the deck not the deck lids. Wrapping the carpet over the edges and doing the corners..

I would take the time and glass the deck before carpeting. That wood isn't going to last long with carpet on it. The wood will have a tough time drying out when it gets wet. As for the corners, you're going to have to put a patch in the corners, done right, it will look alright.

I would cut an 'X' from corner to corner and piece in the gaps. this way you have a clean seam at the edge -- and the piece in will be unseen when there's a cover on that hatch.

Thanks everyone for the input. I am going to glass everything first then recarpet. the wood i took out was in there for 15 years and wasnt glassed and came from lowes. I hate carpeting but it must be done......

how about getting a wide roll of cheap butcher paper or similar and practice with that? When you get it just right you can use it as a template for the carpet.
