I have a 1993 JOhnson 200 that is not running well.
I have owned the motor for about 12 years and have never had to replace the power pack but think that may be the problem.
I'll list the problems below.
1. After starting, when the motor goes from fast idle to slow/regular idle the motor often dies.
2. While running at a constant speed (typically above 3000 rpm) the motor will sometimes cut out almost like someone is tapping a kill switch. It only last for about a second and it is very random.
3. More recently, the engine will often sputter when pulling a skier out of the water.
4. It also seems to stumble a little sometimes like one plug is bad but I've replace all the plugs.
I've used the boat a lot (over 850) hours on same engine. I have always used Stabil and/or Seafoam and the fuel filter is clean. When the engine is running it seems to run very well so I tend to think it is not a carburetor problem.
I'm thinking I need a new power pack, but before spending that amount of money I wondered if there is something else I should check.
Thanks in advance for you help.
