Guys,
I need help with a problem on my 90' model 175 HP Merc. I bought this boat just a few days ago and the owner told me that it needed a trim motor. I took the old one off (trim did not work) and installed the new motor yesterday (carefully wiring the new one just like the old one with blue on top, black in middle, and green on bottom).
I filled the resevoir with transmission fluid (while engine was trimmed about half way up). Hit the up button on my trim switch and once the trim engine caught the fluid, the motor trimmed up all the way.........then here's where the trouble started.
I noticed the ground wire on the motor mount (which I have attached a pic of) melted the plastic cover off of the motor mount and burnt into.
Now, when I hit the trim switch, the trim motor runs but will NOT lower the enging. The engine is presently trimmed all the way up.
Any advise? Please help, I know very little about boat motors and do not have the money to spend in a shop.
Also, what do I do about the the burned off plastic cover and the burned ground wire?
Thanks in advance.
