I Have a 1987 OMC 2.3L, It acts like you are turning of the key and then back on while cruising. It seems to do it more at a low idle than at WOT. The strange thing is it will run fine for a little bit and then it starts acting up. Any suggestions/ fixes would be greatly appreciated.

Re: PLEASE HELP!!

From your description it sounds like an electrical problem. Check the wiring at the key switch and the engine harness. Another possibility is a wire that's creating an intermittant dead short somewhere. That could be tough to find. Good luck.

Re: PLEASE HELP!!

Also a check of the distributor wiring is in order, the main lead and the coil wire, check for carbon build up inside the coil wire boots, both ends and replace if corrosion is detected.

Re: PLEASE HELP!!

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I bought a tune up kit and I will try that as well as look at all the wiring. I heard from someone else it could also be the shift interupter switch. <br />Again thanks for your help.

Re: PLEASE HELP!!

FYI I found the problem! It was the cannon plug( i think that's what you call it) The plug connecting the boat wiring to the motor wiring. The plug was on a wire hanger if I move the plug around it would intermittenly kill the boat. The plug had just worked loose I guess. I cleaned the connections and plugged it back in. I also retaped where the wires went into the plug. I can move it and shake it will no problems now!!! :D :D :D Woohoo!!! To the lake I go!!!!!!
