I have just got my first boat. It has a 40Hp Johnson (late 70's)
ran great @ the time she was put down in 1992...
I cannot seem to free it up. it is locked tight!
fly wheel doesnt turn @ all, prop wil not budge while in gear etc.
I took off the head, and used "corrosion block' I let it sit...used a breaker bar tried to break it loose nothing. It is frozen solid!!!
Is it worth re-building?
Is there any hope? I know next to nothing about this so any help is appreciated.

Re: please help..

Try laying the engine down with the sparkplugs holes pointing up. Make a mixture of 5-6 parts of Marvel Mystery Oil to one part of Liquid Wrench. Pour an ounce or so into each sparkplug hole, lightly screw the plugs back in and let it set for several daze (a week) and see if that'll loosen it up.

c/6
Hooty

Re: please help..

If it frees up you should be able to get it running. However I wouldn't spend a lot of money on it unless you do a complete tear down. I'm thinking of the possibility of internal rust with bearings and crankshaft.

If you get it running do a compression check first to get an idea of what is going on inside.

Re: please help..

First things first. Try to free it up and go from there. If you get it free the next step would be to get the OMC shop & parts manual specific for your motor.

You need to get only the parts you need which should be readily available.
