The number is 7.511 inches US, number stamped on bar, new style tool. You need .020 US between bar and bearing housing. You owe me.

Re: Please, I need a favor

Can someone explain how shimming works and where they are place for the pinion gear? I have a 1974 75 HP Chrysler. I removed the driveshaft to replace a seal and the upper bearing. When torquing down the original pinion gear nut on the end of the shaft to 85 ft-lbs., as the manual calls for, the drive shaft is extrememly tight and I can barely turn it by hand. When removing the nut, it didn't seem like it was tightened to 85 ft-lbs. All races are properly seated. The driveshaft operated fine before disassembling. The manual calls for a new nut. Does the nut have some sort of "one time" locking feature that requires a larger torque to tighten? Thanks for reading.
