305 heads on a 350

Whats going on rs got a phone call today from the marina get this one youll like this they took the heads off and found the head gasket was no good that was the couse for lose of power and the noise so they took the head to a machine shop and they where told the head was a 305 head not a 350 so now i need to replace both heads with the wright one's and the head gasket was not a marine gasket.

Re: Please someone HELP!!!!!!

Didn't you just buy this boat??. The last guy who had it must have rebuilt with a car engine (which i hear some people actually do when they can't find or want to pay for the right block)... that is amazing!! Its too bad it wasnt just the blown gasket..that would have been easy..

any idea how much this will set you back??..

PS..first Italy doesnt get in to the WC and now your heads are smaller than they should be... could be a coinsidence??

Thats a shame..but at least you will have a good engine for the rest of the summer...and, those engine are great, they are easy to work on so long as its not internal.. I like them becasue its just like a car engine..

All in all, you will be good once its done and you will enjoy it, im sure.

Good luck!

Good to hear everything is finally working! Now its time to enjoy it!!

As far as the pump..If you have a bathroom on the boat...thats probably the waste pump. Its used to pump out the resevoir when you get full. or it could be a raw water intake pump..to be used for flushing etc..

If you dont have a bathroom...then i am not sure, so posting a picture would help.

Re: Please someone HELP!!!!!!

thats the correct prop 15 1/4 x 15..

You can prop down to get the required WOT RPM rating.
Max WOT RPM: 5000 , Min WOT RPM: 4600

As long as you are within these RPMs with that prop you should be just fine.

The only way to tell what came with that boat originally is to call the manufacturer and ask..thay may have come through with a specific size and pitch. But honestly, most people who replace a prop will get an exact replacement unless they know enough about gaining anything by changing it.

All in all I say you are where you should be, unless..you see some reason to change it. If you hammer the throttle and your tach is reading withing these numbers you are good. If you want a little more, but not exceeding the 5000 then you can prop down to get an additional 3-400 RPM..

Why screw with it?..I would leave it alone..

Re: Please someone HELP!!!!!!

Hello R thanks for the input. i had A 14/5/8 X 15 IT WAS A STAINLESS PROP. i loaded the boat with 4 kids me and my wife a total of 6 and she is rated for 15 peaple i give it gas all the way down and she just wouldent go on plane let alone go 5 mph but ones i threw everyone up front she planed no problem. so then i changed the prop to a 15 1/4 x15 i didnt load up it was me and my wife planes better but lost top end maybe 20 mph against 32 with the other prop

As I mentioned before..the prop sizing is a little confusing becasue a smaller prop will give you more versus a bigger one..

originally you said you had the 15..

so you had a 14 5/8 x 15 stainless?... and you went to a 15 1/4 x 15?
the prop you had on before was the better prop for maximum output..as I said before you have a range of rpm to stay witin.. at max rpm full throttle the 14 prop will give you more than the 15..

i would go back to the 14..

Re: Please someone HELP!!!!!!

Perhaps you didn't have the drive trimmed all the way down. That boat will plow all day if you try to get out of the hole with the trim up.
You start out with the trim fully down, then once on plane you can raise the leg a bit for improved top speed. Just don't let it over rev and suck air. If it revs too high you could be back at the repair shop. So keep the prop in enough water to have grip. If it suddenly breaks grip throttle it down right away, don't wait for the trim to drop the drive back into the water, by then you could have damage.
