Pleasurecraft Outdrives?

I have been looking at buying an old slickcraft with twin Pleasurecraft Outdrives. I have never heard of these drives before. Anything anyone can tell me about them would be helpfull.<br /><br />The boat is at <br /><br /> http://www.saltydogsearch.com/detailtrack.cfm?boatid=20439&pic=3 <br /><br />Also the boat has a pair of 4 cyl engines that were repowered in 1988. Anyone know anything about these or what the HP rating might be?

Well they look like Volvo drives in the pictures. I was wondering if maybe PCM just purchased the I/O drives from pleasurecraft and slapped their name on them and then added their own engines. That being the case parts would be available. Anyone know anything about this?

I think we're reading into things here. Are we sure the drives are called Pleasure crafts? I think the boat maker is a Pleasure craft, not the drives.<br /><br />Email the fellow for more specifics on the engines and drives. Ask if they were ever rebuilt or replaced. 1968 is a long, long time ago!

Slickcraft is the same as Grew in Canada made in Penetanguishene, Midland area of Ontario. Lots of these hardy rigs running around, now this is all fresh water no salt to eat them up. Many of the marinas have used parts just need to find em.

Yep, they're PCM drives and transmissions. Came with either a 4 cylinder Mitsbitshi or a 302 Ford. Had a transmission that is built by PCM that connected to the drive. So there is no shifting in the drive like the Volvo. Parts are only available from PCM. Got one of PCM's Power Plus Transmissions dropped off at my shop today to be rebuilt. Gonna be interesting.

Captain Ken <br /><br />If I may ask. Do you know the HP rating of the 4 cyl motors? They say it was all repowered in 1989. Did they still make the whole setups then and if so can all the parts still be had?

Dont know personaly Rod Knocking. But I do Know CaptKen. I would stay away from these engines/drives. He has been in the marine enviroment for many years as I have and has Never seen these! Must be a local thing?

Actually they are good units when they are running correctly. I bought one some years back as a total from the insurance company and fixed it up for the son as his first boat. It took a lot of abuse from him. The 4 cylinder is rated at 140 and the parts are available from PCM. Pretty spunky for a four cylinder The hard parts on the engine are the same as the mitshibitsi (whatever) engine. Fact, the son had the same engine in his Mighty Max truck. Had to rebuild that one once. Not too bad with a book. The boat was a Sunliner and I think there's still a few running around down here still.

After doing a lot of research I purchased the boat for a very cheap price. The owner replaced everything in 1990 with new 1989 systems. The motors Transmissions and drives are perfect. The boat hull was kept indoors most of it's life so it is dry and rock solid. I think getting a great turnkey 23' twin engine boat under $2000.00 was quite a find. <br /> The thing has 140 HP Mitsubishi engines that are apparently quite tough and reliable. Borg Velvet drives (can't go wrong there). And from what I gather it uses PCM outdrives manufactured by volvo. From what I understand the drives don't shift in the foot like most I/O's and outboards but rather do it all in the transmissions. Parts are available and there is even a company that sells aftermarket parts.<br /> I think this all worked out well for me. Most guys passed over the boat because they had never heard of the drive system so it went cheap. I have to think if it had twin merc's or the drives said Volvo it would have been long gone before I got to it.<br /><br />Badger

could you post a pic of the drives ? the other pics did not show a good view .i am curious to see a pic because i have been working on boats a long time and have never seen pcm drives.thanks .

I should pick the boat up shortly. When I get a chance I will be happy to post a pic. Ya I run a small boat parts boneyard and I have never seen one. So far however, everyone that has had any experiance with them has had nothing but good to say about them<br /><br />Badger

Very interesting boat and power package.<br /><br />It sounds as if the drive package(s) are well built.
