I have a hand sized chunk taken out of a plexi windshield from a '64 Lone Star Holiday; a clean split from around a screw hole. From some reading here & the net, I was able to 'solvent weld' it back together, by dissolving some plexi shavings in acetone & using it as glue. It does seem surprisingly strong!

I am wondering if it's a good idea & if would lead to a stronger bond to use a dremel & a tiny carbide endmill to chamfer the crack (on both sides) about 1/3 the thickness of the material, then filling with additional acetone/plexi solution from a syringe? (Similar to chamfering edges of steel plate before welding together.)

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

UPDATE! Success! I did end up chamfering both sides maybe 1/16" deep & filling w/ plexi dissolved in acetone. Pretty? No. Strong? YEAH! In retrospect, it would have been helpful to know WHY it cracked in the 1st place; in this case it seems to be a botched install originally that stressed the mounting hole. When I reinstalled, it started to crack AGAIN (1/2" long), so I loosened the bracket & drilled the end of the crack with a 1/32" bit.

Hello m8..

You could also try MEK solvent for your glue bond..

Since your looking for a bond and not a weld, I wouldn't camfer. Kinda like when I was glueing my Mom's favorite coffee cup back together after I dropped it.
