I should have got pics but I'll try to explain this as best I can.

On my leg, on the outside of the upper gearcase, there is a red plastic plug that when removed gives access to a grease nipple that puts grease where the upper gearcase sits on the lower. I think this is the swivel housing?

Anyway, this red plastic plug is severely broken off - basically all that is left of it is the threaded parts so it doesn't really seal anything. It looks to me like the passage on the inside of this plug is where the exhaust/water come down out of the engine and out the leg. So it doesn't really matter if there is a plug there?

It does serve a purpose. How I vital, I am not sure. If the plug is not installed, I guess Exhaust and Hot Water can bleed off any go through it. I replaced mine just because. They can be found on:

http://marinepartssource.com

They are a very good source for uncommon Vintage OMC Parts. I use them quite often. They were even able to get me a new HP Decal for my Exhaust Housing.

I have a Mongrel Drive, Model Years from 1970-1975. I used the following part# for that plug at Marine Parts Source: 313221

Sorry Seawolf, my bad - it is a 1969 - as for model - isn't 120 the model? I'm new to this boat thing :)

Lyndy - that site is great, gets right into the BRP parts catalogue with some great zoomable diagrams.
