Plug wires, where to find solid copper-core wires?

1960 40 hp Evinrude Lark ll..........In an earlier thread I spoke about how well the old boy responded to some TLC and rebuilt drive unit & water pump. Also how difficult it has been to get the flywheel off. We have new point-sets, condensers and 2 new coils.

I don't have plug wires. Doing a ton of reading, and just plain magneto basics tells me I need some solid core wires. Like the ones I used to run on my first car that screwed everyone's TV reception. This is definitely NOT a HE ignition system and I doubt it would even fire with HEI suppressor wires. I did find that Accel and Mallory still make them but only in sets. I went to Jegs & Summit thinking I might find a couple of solid core coil wires I could adapt.

The wires here at iBoats aren't year specific for this engine and just list as Evinrude plug sets and nothing looks right.

I'd LOVE to find some 7mm solid copper-core wire without having to buy a whole spool. Suggestions? Anyone? OK, I'm being picky now but yellow would be fun (and faster) jk

Napa only sells it in 50' rolls usually, unless they have some laying around.

Most people forget their local dealer! You must have one in your are. YOu can buy it by the foot there.

Other options are ebay, and other online vendors.

You want some fancy?

Magneto Parts for Antique Engines & Tractors

By the way, dont get solid core like you mentioned. Metallic core yes, but stranded wire. Usually copper.

Either they like you, or the NAPAs in the US are different than Canada! :)

What part number do you use? I have never seen a part number for a by the foot price. The only part number I have found were for full rolls. I buy it in 100 ' rolls, so have never needed it in smaller amounts but would be good to know.

Thanks Boobie

I went to the link you provided and have to say that supplier is awesome! Think I'll send in an order. Nothing like the "real" thing. I haven't seen plug wire like that since I tuned-up my grandfathers Willy's and that was 30 years ago. BTW, you are correct, no I didn't mean solid, but stranded copper. Jegs has Accel's "racing" wires and an individual coil wire "kit". It's the right wire but way too much money (24 bucks a wire).

Truth is I thought about a coil wire for a mower but they are all molded to the coil. Good find though, and a tractor supply place would probably be my best bet to find something soon. Thanks,
Mike

+1. NAPA, O'Reilly's, Tractor Supply, Johnnyrude dealer, ebay, Small engine shops, etc...You'll probably want/need to get some new boots as well.
