I have a '94 Force 70hp, and was wondering if there is a specific plug wire set I would need, or, can I use a different o/b set? There is a marine parts store near me that has various 6-cyl sets on clearance for $2-$4, and I was thinking it would be a good excuse to put some new ones in, and have a set of spares.

Re: Plug Wires

As long as they are solid metal core wires.

First, I didn't think the plug wires were even removable from the coils? But, I would think if you could, you need stainless steel, or monel core wire, instead of copper for corrosion protection.

My opinion, for two dollars pick up as many sets as possible and change them out as needed, even if you do it twice a year. Just add some Dielectric grease to the boots and you should be good to go. Of course this depends on if you can even remove them in the first place.

Why would you need a different core wire? If the jacket is good and the boots are sealed up tight, no moisture would get in, If they weren't you would have arcing and misfires. So, in theory, any core would do, correct?

Yes, you could go cheap, and it would work, as long as it's metallic core. For that matter, why bother to change them at all? They're non-corroding metallic core as it is, that would be even cheaper

They are Quicksilver or Sierra (Teleflex) brand, and they are for marine applications. So I should, huh?

Re: Plug Wires

A mechanic replaced a spark plug wire on my 1994, 2 cylinder 50 hp. Didn't think much of it until I was having issues with the motor and I discovered the new wire has resistance and the original doesn't. Check the resistance of the new wires and compare to the old ones before you purchase.
