plugs 1972 chrysler 55hp

ive got a 1972 55hp chrysler plugs keep fouling out with oil after a few min running new plugs gets it going again for a few min i have the oil mixed at 40-1 any help appricated

Run champiion L82C plugs and go to 50 to 1 using a high quality TWC3 marine oil in the gas. With motor warmed up if you goose the throttle it should go immediatly. If it hesitates then goes the motor is too rich. If it dies then it is too lean. Idle mixture adjustment is done on screw just above the choke butterflies on the carb. Be careful not to run it too lean. If you adjust it when it is running and the motor starts to race it is too lean.

will give all that a try plugs in it now are NGK BUHW SUPPOSED TO BE A MARINE PLUG spark shoots out the end thanks for the ideas

Those are surface gap plugs. Best for sustained high speed. It sparks between the inner and outer metal over the surface of the porcelin. L82Cs are conventional sparkplugs best for full spectrum RPMs.

If your 72 is not Magnapower, but either magneto or battery ignition, you should NOT be using surface gap plugs. The ignition does not put out enough voltage to fire these plugs at idle. Go to the regular plug and you should have no trouble. Only Magnapower ignition systems use a high enough voltage to fire the surface gap plugs. Surface gap plugs are much colder and more prone to foul than regular plugs.
