1973 Johnson 115
Champion web site lists two plugs for this motor.

champion page

5828

L77JC4

Currently QL77JC4 are installed. Which is best? Why?

Plug wires appear to be integral to coil. Can the plug wire be replaced.

Thanks,
Mike

Re: plugs and wires

Mike:

The wires are removable. There are basically small threaded studs integral to the coils that hold the wires in place. These studs also serve as the electrode that makes contact with the wire core. Taking the wires and turning them counter clockwise will allow removal for replacement.

Also, I agree with Middleground either L77JC4 or their supression version QL77JC4 are fine in your motor.

Re: plugs and wires

IF your plug wires "unscrew" from the coils on your 1973 motor, then they are not the factory coils, but aftermarket versions.

Re: plugs and wires

I believe these are the facory coils. If so they cannot be replaced??

So a non supressor plug won't harm the CDI ?

This all became secondary about an hour ago. did a comp. check and #1 was way low. Pulled the head and #1 piston is real sloppy. Don't see anything real bad yet but into the motor I go.

Thanks guys.
Mike
