I was wondering which Pressure treated plywood thicknes 3/4 or 1/2?

is the boat wood or fiberglass???
If your hull is aluminum most of the people on this site would avoid the pressure treated...
seems like some pressure treated wood has chemicals that react with aluminum...cause pitting and holes...

This is true ^^^^. As to thickness a lot depends on the Size of the boat, the stringer/bulkhead configuration, whether or not you'll be using pour in foam. Lots of variables to be determined before a definitive answer can be given.

There's no way you want to put ASQ pressure treated plywood in that Lowe tinny. It will eat/corrode your boat.

Use exterior grade plywood sealed with epoxy resin. Use the same thickness wood that you take out of the boat.

It is an Aluminum fishing boat... but I wont be attaching it directrly to the hull. Attached is a picture where I would like to create a deck between the two storage boxes

You still don't want to use pressure treated, the chemicals will leach out and eventually make their way to your hull.

Do you plan to put the pedestal seat on the deck? If so, you should go with 3/4" thick plywood.

Are you going to frame the deck with aluminum or wood?

Does Lowes or Home Depot carry exterior grade plywood sealed with epoxy resin. I couldnt find it on their site, maybe it is called something diffrent.

Yes I plan on to put the pedestal seat on the deck. so 3/4 is what I was thinking because of it.

They don't sell plywood sealed with epoxy, you have to buy the wood and seal it yourself, and since you're just doing a small piece you can use spar urethane sealer on it instead.

By framing the deck I mean how do you intend to support it?

I actually have a lot of spar urethane sealer left over from a few months ago when I did my hardwood floors. I can use that and put carpet over it.

I was thinking to use wood for support. Someone told me I should use 2x4 for structual support...

2x4s will work ok for the little bit you're going to do, just don't use pressure treated anything and use stainless steel screws for everything.

5/8" is a nice compromise if you can find it. Make sure whatever sealer you use can handle outdoor applications are some are not UV tolerant. You can always paint over non-UV tolerant sealers to solve that issue though.

5/8" is not bad eather... the sealer I was going to use was rated for Indoor/outdoot

Rule of thumb .. if you can use 3/4 then use it.

It will save you some great deal of headaches.

I would personally never use PT ply on Any boat .. but thats just me. I would also never use regular 2x4's on a boat.

I pretty much agree with YD On this one, Except for the 3/4". Some boats depending on sized and use, do not need it.

It would be better to frame your deck with aluminum angle, it's lighter and lasts forever... but you don't sound like you have a lot of experience building stuff so 2x4s would probably be better for you and just the little bit you have to do. If it was a bigger job I'd say aluminum angle... but that's just a small job and 2xs will be fine.

I only use Marine grade ply .. but its because its not my boat.

Now if it were my boat and I had to keep the material costs down I could use some coated exterior ply.

As for the frame outs I would probably use the scrap ply to make my cleats and frames.

As long as your wood is nice and coated then by all means go for what you need to use. Last time I got some 2x's It was water rich to begin with. Probably my vender though..

Since I opened up this thread I wanted to share my first project on this boat. I used Marine Grade plywood that I was able to get at a local plywood store. It came sealed and has a 7 year warranty for water damage. It was a little pricey but I didn’t have to prep it myself. it came sealed and with a coat of epoxy on it as well.
