I have heard of this term and I understand it to mean a trailerable boat, of modest horsepower to meet the criteria of a cruiser, not performance, that has amenities to allow for overnight or weekend type trips. Ex. Head, sink, 1-2 burner stove and an icebox. I refer to boats of lower profile and usually with few if any cabin windows, not usually more than a 9 foot beam and capable of better than cabin cruiser speed but less than high performance type speed. The genre usually means to me a length of somewhere between 20-30ft in length. Reggie Fountain probably has a slightly different discription.
Hi all, I am very new to the boating world...guess that make me an ordinary seaman here.
Anyway I just bought an old boat...problem is I don't know the Hull, or Class or any thing or even how to measure the thing...
Now I know this is useless info but I need your help...
This is what I know...I think its a pocket cruiser
IT HAS a VOLVO V8 engine with a 4 barrel holley
IT has a sterndrive
It has a tiny cabin with a head under the cushions of the beds.
Any advice where to begin...?
How do I know if its a pocket cruiser, size, hull/class?
What defines a pocket cruiser? I'm guessing it is a 24-29 foot vessel with cabin etc. Anybody hear that term?
Pocket cruiser as defined by Wikipedia:
A pocket cruiser, microcruiser, trailer sailer or pocket yacht is a small lightweight sailboat with a cabin, designed for recreational cruising. Pocket cruisers can be readily loaded on a trailer and towed by most passenger automobiles. Both commercially made and designs for home built pocket cruisers are available. In spite of its name, this type of vessel is completely unrelated to the pocket battleship.

I"ve always referred to the powered cruisers as defined in the other posts as sport cruisers.

Holy thread resurrection, Batman!
Welcome to iboats, redeye!
Posting the HIN (hull identification number) would be a good place to start in getting the information you need.
2004??? Snookered again! Hate when that happens...
Ditto, Redeye- welcome! (try not to resurrect ancient threads, just start your own- thanks)

LMAO!!! I'm guessing a pocket cruiser when this thread started is a little different than a pocket cruiser now.
FWIW, around here a pocket cruiser generally means a trailerable (beam 8'6") cruiser in the low 20' range.
