Howdy Boys! <br /><br />Posted up a question a while back about this motor having some sneezing/backfire problem. Just now getting around to working on it. Changed the points & condenser. A gentleman that resided in Denmark had the same motor and recommended that I change the upper crankshaft seal if I saw some wetness around the seal. Well, I did see wetness around the seal and replaced it while I had easy access. Help from Denmark on an outboard motor question!!!! Aint the internet great!!! <br /><br />My question is about the point gap setting. In the manual (Clymer) they recommend using an OHM meter to set the gap/dwell. Can you just set the point gap with feeler gauge? The manual does not have a gap measurement for this motor. My thinking is that if you get the right gap, on the cam there is a set mark, you would get the same result as a dwell meter. Am I off base there? From there my next step would be to "syncronize" the engine as the manual calls it, which I understand is necessary to advance the timing at speed.<br /><br />Can ya just set the point gap at the high/set point on the cam? If so, what would be the proper gap for this motor?<br /><br />Appreciate it!!
