Has anyone out there ever used one of the kits available to convert a points style distributer over to electronic. I have seen them used in cars before and wondering if any of you have ever done that with a marine engine. I have a 1965 190hp mercruiser 283 v8. Some of the models I have seen also have a adjustable rev limiter which would be a good feature to have. Any ideas would be great.

Re: Points to electronic ignition

This coming tuesday, I'm even putting a Pertronix on my old Hyster forklift Continental 4 banger. I keep it in a 40 ft seagoing cargo container and the winter condensation plays havoc with the points. I'm tired of having to clean the points every 6 weeks when I need to fire it up to move a load of 'stuff'.

I have one on my Gulfstream and my '65 Mustang. I wouldn't leave home without one!

Go with the Pertronix II, it has a special curcuit that prevents the unit from burning out if you accidently leave your key on. You'll never regret it.

I replaced mine with Pertronix. No more points and condensor. Put in a new coil and also got to throw out the ballast resistor as a bonus.

Have a great day

Once you go the Pertronix route you will never look back!
