No...the advance is handled in the distributor. Done all electronically. No advance weights. The ECM can override it if it detects knock. If you don't have an ECM, the distributor just uses its own advance curve with no modification.

Here is the advance curve for 2001-2006 Volvo engines. This is DonS's picture.

so in other words, it just needs 12 volts to run itself or something? I just cant picture how it does it with no mechanical weights, OR some sort of pre-programmed control module to do it.. Not trying to be a pain, just trying to understand..

Just 12V. It basis it on RPM which it knows by itself by how often it gets triggered. It has a control module inside.

Ah, I see. Have you used one on an old engine that was points originally and if so, were you happy with it? Its either going to be this or pertronix..

Not points. I have one that I bought for the boat in my signature. I haven't installed it yet. I bought it mainly because the one in my boat uses a distributor that is only used in one or two years and is prone to failure and parts are no longer available.

Do I need to buy that little wire deal that bypasses the electronics to set the base timing or??

Ask the seller if it is included. When I bought mine it was included.
