Shingles (chicken pox, pt 2?) often appears on the face and hands too, but almost always on one or both sides. It can take several months to go aways and definately can leaving scarring.<br /><br />My understanding is the first time it is called chicken pox. When the virus re-manifests it is called shingles. The virus lives at the base of the spine and can keep re-manifesting, multiple times.
