Re: polar prop size

Your not likely to find a similar setup but we can get you going. Just get us the information needed in the stickys at the top of the prop forum.
From your info it appears your slip is very high we should be able to help solve that.

Re: polar prop size

1) Performance issue you are trying to correct. top speed
2) Current prop manufacturer, model, aluminum or stainless as a minimum. not sure manufacturer stainless steel 13x 19
3) Current prop diameter and pitch (required).13 x19
4) Wide open throttle RPM and speed with an average load (very helpful) 32-33 @ 5200rpm
5) Engine/drive make, model, year, and HP 2003 -f115 yamaha four stroke
6) Boat make model, year, length and weight 2003 -polar 1910 19 ft 2300 lb thanks for reply hopefully this helps

Re: polar prop size

It appears to me that for that weight and setup you need a 16 or 17" ss prop.I lean toward the 16 because if its too light you can still use it and just watch the rpm should give excellent hole shot and stay on plane easier. They routinely run these motors at 6000.
A 16 should add 400 to 600 rpm a 17 300 to 400.I suggest stainless because it makes things a little more predictable going ss to ss.

Re: polar prop size

Knowing what brand and model prop you have would have help. Your slip is well above 20% so there is definately room for improvement. If we were doing it we would start by looking at the current set up before changing the prop. It's very possible the motor could be raised and you'll get more efficiency out of what you already have. You have your baseline which is a good start.

Dhadley makes a very good point about setup and he's done a lot more hands on than I have.

Re: polar prop size

Seems unlikely but you could verify the tach is accurate. You could try lowering the motor.
I assume your 16" numbers are with the motor down one hole from all the way up.
Did a little research on the the Yamaha performance bulletin site.
6 aluminum boats 17'7" to 18'11" props from 17-21" 5850 to 6100 rpm average sliip was 20%
with a Clearwater 19' low at 18%
Highest slip was a Polar Craft Outlander at 27% 19" prop at 5850 38.2 mph.
3 glass boats averaged 10% 11% high and 10% low.
Esentually 6000 rpm at about 40 mph. all three.
Assuming your polar is a Polar craft the two I checked averaged about 23.5%
the 21 ft. was 27% @ 38.2 mph 5850, the 18ft was 20%.@42.9 mph 6000 both with a 19" prop.
Seems your boat should produce at least those numbers with a proper setup.

Re: polar prop size

You keep saying Polar, is it a Polorcraft? I appears on the tests I looked up the Polar craft had high slip numbers .
.But the speed of all the tests were higher than yours and the smallest prop was a 17.
You should raise the motor one hole at a time and test. It is normal to have to trim down for turns And the best trim may be less than the max.Is there a foil on the motor? Is the bottom clean and smooth. Is the throttle opening all the way?

I have the same boat and motor. Was worried I bought a crappy boat. Dog out of the water. Had a 3 blade 13x19 ss original prop from polar on it when I bought it used. Only ran 5000 wot. Just put a Solas 4 blade 13 1/4 x 15 ss on it and wow!!!!!!!! Jumps on plane and runs 6 mph faster!!! Can't believe the difference. After reading a lot I was worried that going from a 19 to a 15 was too much but it was perfect. Runs 6100 now just me in it. Can't figure out why the clown who owned it before me never corrected it.

Re: polar prop size

As the OP hasn't posted since July 2012, I bet he figured it out long ago.
