Hello,
There has been a little chatter in here about converting a 20 pole alt to a 12 pole. Has anyone made any head way? I am so tired of searching for hours on end looking for a tach for my 20 pole stator. I also am getting conflicting info from different venders. My life and the lives of other people in here would be better if we could all be able to install a 12 pole tach.

Re: Pole conversion

Sweeper go on ebay and in search type in tachometer...when the next page loads with the tachometers type in Faria US Marine in search. Or click this link.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FARI...1355324QQptZBoatQ5fPartsQ5fAccessoriesQ5fGear This guy is selling new in box 12/20 pole tachs from 94'. Also has matching speedos and I believe these match the Faria Nantucket guages. I'm ordering mine soon so dont take them all.

Re: Pole conversion

Sweeper: Assuming you have a late Chrysler or earlier Force prior to installation of the Mercury style ignition, there is a Chrysler factory conversion. This was offered when Magna-Power II ignitions started failing regularly.

However, it is costly and complex, and you need to hunt up the components. It requires a 12 pole alternator stator, special stator mount (of which few are available), distributor, Motorola CD box and coil, timing tower, and Motorola regulator/rectifier. Ignition switch is the same but must be wired differently.

All in all, not a conversion you would do just to install a tach because you like the design. better to settle for what tachs are available or try to swap the tach guts into a case and bezel you like.

Re: Pole conversion

Thank you all. I had no idea how difficult it would be to convert to twelve poles. Thanks again for all the replies.
