Re: Pole material

Cool, I hope you have a good time!<br /><br />I don't have advice on material except that something stiff, strong, lightweight, and something that doesn't make noise which would spook the fish.<br /><br />If someone is going to be poling while someone else fishes that is the easiest.<br /><br />If you want to pole and fish then I would look at a way to hold the pole when you want to fish. One way to do that is with a Polemate, which is a clip that fastens to your leg. Otherwise, you might end up dropping the pole while trying to fish and then you will scare the fish.<br /><br /><br />Good luck and let us <br /><br />know how it goes ecblanks!

Re: Pole material

thanks. Probably be one poles and other fishes, then switch.<br />"flats" is a relative term here. more the fact that I have a v hull and no trolling motor and will be trying to get back into some North Carolina grass for reds (drum, up here).<br />I'll probably hit home depot tonight and see what I can come up with.

blanks, where in NC you going? I live on the Neuse and we do a little drum fishin. I have a v hull too with no trolling motor. It would help to have a pole every now and then, but where we fish, it's usually about 4-5 feet deep till you get within casting distance to the marsh. You just have to be careful of stumps. What water ya headed to?

If you're in shallow water, an oar work fine. Good idea to have one on the boat anyway.

I have a telescopeing aluminum pole that I picked up from Gander mountain up here in Minni. I use it for my pontoon and also for my boat if going into the nasty stuff. I am sure Cabellas and Bass Pro have some also. It has a double duck bill on the end and works great.

I've had a picture in my head for a while for a sweeeet push pole... <br /><br />A thick, nicely aged, and heavily varnished piece of bamboo, about 18 foot long, with a Y foot on the bizness end, would make a butt-kickin' push pole...

Blanks, have you ever been there? Harker's Island is a great place to fish. You will be close to everything. Be respectful of the locals there though, they are a strange group (old southern baptist town). I was chased out about 10 years ago doing a sales call(had a black salesman w/me)...I shyt you not. They even have their own strange accent. If the weather's nice you can break the inlets there and do some fishing in the atlantic. But all around harker's there's good drum fishing along with cobia, flounder, trout, king and spanish, blues, you name it. Have fun
