Re: Poll: Do think think a SE106/SE116 will handle more than 300 HP better than an Al
If you look at the excerpt below its from tech support with regard to going only 10hp over rating. If you notice they say they don't provide warranty for over 300hp .
If your upgrading your power-plant and changing the drive anyway why don't you just spend a little more to go to a Bravo unit. I'm actually swapping out my engine for a 383 that's 400+hp. Personally am upgrading to a bravo. Getting a tow back is never any fun lol

Default Hp for SE106
I have a 2 1/2 year old SEI 106 Alpha 1 Gen 1 outdrive currently installed on my boat. My normally aspirated three year old GM 350 engine ended its life last week. My question is can I install a 5.7 vortec with a carb at 310 horsepower in place of the old engine that rated around 200 hp. Will the outdrive accept that increase in power?

The maximum rating for the Alpha drives is 300HP. SEI does not provide a warranty on any application over 300HP. If you have the 1.47 ratio you might be OK by avoiding fast hole shots and quick acceleration.
