Please don't vote unless you are serious about attending and will be towing your boat to the location. If you want to attend without your boat, that is fine I just figure those towing should get preference.
If you would like to add a location. Post the location, if somebody seconds it, I will add it.

Detroit- Lake St. Clair and / or Erie

Sandusky Ohio- Bay to run around in, optional run to Kelly's Island and Put In Bay

Chicago- Launch into the Chicago River, cruise into and through the city to the Chicago Harbor on Lake Michigan.

Lake St. Marys- Celina Ohio. Kind of shallow but very big, usually smooth. Has had polution problems in the past. Don't eat the fish.

Brookville Lake- Liberty Indiana to Brookville Indiana. My personnal favorite. Awesome for our size of boat. Two large beaches to park and meet on. Lots of miles for tubing and skiing and a large idle zone for cruising. Lake 18 miles long plus navigable feeder river. Excellent fishing.
Three Indiana State parks and campgrounds that are part of the whole Army Corp of Engineers reservoir complex. Whitewater state park, Quakertown state park and Mounds state park. Beautiful lake side golf course at Mounds.
Ainsleys resort- private owned resort hotel, restaurant and harbor on the lake.
Very popular destination for boaters from Indianapolis Indiana and Cincinnati Ohio.

Lake Monroe- Bloomington Indiana. Have not been there since I was a kid. Remember it was huge.

Cincinnati Ohio- Ohio River. There is a large fireworks show on the river on Labor Day weekend. WEBN fireworks.

Lake Wawasee- Syracuse Indiana. 10 miles from the Starcraft plant in New Paris Indiana. AOMCI meet close by at Lake Webster on September 16, 17 and 18. http://www.aomci.org/events/ If you keep refreshing page, you get a different pic. http://www.aomci.org/

I would definetly be interested in attending, sounds like fun. I have read many of these post and feel as though I would know many of you. I am from south of Toledo Ohio and will be towing a 22' Islander so I will limit myself to about a 200 mile radius and a location that would accomdate a boat that size. A lot depends on the date of the event, with enough notice most summer weekends should work.
By the way, not being very computor savvy, what is the simplest way to post pics, when I have tried before they say they are to big and I do not know how to reduce my pics. Thanks

Yes, to help with the decision on where to hold it. If I had known more about making polls, I would have added it to that thread.

Re: Poll- Location 2011 Great lakes region meet

I drafted a post earlier today, then decided to hold back until I read Enterprise's post here.

So, the poll is a great idea, how many and the fairest proximity.

That said, consider this also.

1. Form STARS, or Starcraft Tinnies And Restoration Society

2. Seek event sponsorship from Starcraft, and others since we promote their
product and use many supplies from them. We are inadvertently advertising the Starcraft name and logo as well as the vintage because so many old ladies are brought back to seaworthiness.

3. I voted for Sandusky, Ohio, specifically East Harbor State Park. Great camping, cheap, quiet bay, dockage available, a stone's throw from the Islands, solid fishing for walleye and bass, and panfish, entertainment, and Cedar Point amusement park is right there.

The others for sponsors are HD, HFT, Lowe's, where you buy rivets, carpets, seats, Cabela's, BassPro, you get the notion!!

Skeeter owners have this.

Hey EZ, any chance we could combine this thread and the one Mike started since we're talking about the same thing?:)

Does that make sense?

And change or add locations to the ones everybody is the most interested in. I can't figure out how to edit them.

I would like to ad that there are two nice army corp lakes mississinewa and salamonie they are both close to Wabash IN if anyone is interested.
Both have multiple ramps beach nice out of the way places for rafting up.
Salamonie has an island you can beach on and camp if you like.

I'm definitely in, I live only 40 minutes from either Detroit or Sandusky. Sandusky is my hometown. Much more boater friendly and plenty of places to accomodate boaters within the area. If the hotels are booked solid because of the Cedar Point traffic the surrounding towns like Port Clinton, Oak Harbor, Fremont, Huron and Vermillion can house enough of us to make a hell of a turnout.

I have to second that, you are in the walleye capital !! This area does provide excellent boating for all size craft, from you 12' up to your largest. Bay area is well protected for smaller craft yet you have convenient access to lake erie. Well yes, I am a bit prejudice since I live fairly close to the area.
Easy turnpike access, easy boater acess for those with larger craft.
Does anyone know for sure if there is any form of public docking, overnite docking, directly in the area?

When you scroll up and read my earlier post, hit the link on East Harbor State Park. Cheap, affordable camping, the group can try and lock up a cluster of sites. A Marina is available for overnight docking as a camper, and a launch.

The harbor is like an inland lake, good panfish and LM bass. Exiting the harbor, a short boat ride to Kellys Island

http://www.kelleysisland.com/

Good fishing on the big water. In late spring, the walleyes are just starting to head East, and the SM bass fishing is pretty good around the islands.

A close car or boat ride to Cedar Point.

In summer, the best walleye fishing is in the Central basin, the Lorain/Vermillion area. Very easy to hitch the Star up and launch there. As most Erie anglers will tell you, the standard are inline small boards trolling around 1.2-1.8 mph, and use the trolling charts and your fish finder for setback and weights.

For water skiing, Sandusky Bay is an option with an offshore wind.

East Harbor looks pretty good. A place for the small boats, a big lake for the larger boats. Fishing, camping, Cedar Point..........

Good choice.

Re: Poll- Location 2011 Great lakes region meet

I brought this area up for all the reasons posted, and just so you know, about a 90 minute ride for us. As we all know, all the Great Lakes can get nasty, especially Erie with its shallowness. East Harbor provides opportunities on rough water days, and so does Sandusky Bay if needed.

What I like is dockage, community bon fires and BBQ, BS story telling, and making new friends that have a common interest.

I will contact Starcraft to see whether they have a marketing interest in promoting their boats as being durable, long-lasting, and see if they want to exploit that a$pect.

Somebody call Marine-Tex(GLUVIT) for dollars, and any other common product we all use.

Re: Poll- Location 2011 Great lakes region meet

As there are a LOT of boats (mine included) that "might" be done in time for this event, I think it will be hard to get solid and definitive number of people attending. I would like to go, but I really have no idea when mine will be done. I "hope" it will be done, but can't and won't commit to coming at this point in time. There are probably others with the same feelings as well. As far as location, Erie sounds like a good one.

Re: Poll- Location 2011 Great lakes region meet

Don't be surprised if we don't get "corporate" sponsorship for this thing guys. Not much going on as far as that, except maybe some free hats like last time around.

Starcraft might have some free trinkets they could mail out. Odds of their involvement would increase tenfold if we held the event at Lake Wawasee, since it's very close to Goshen, IN where there company was located(or still is?) for many years.

I like the idea of Cedar Point and lots of camping options, would we be able to keep the boats moored or beached anywhere around there?

Detroit or Ohio would be fine with me, I was also thinking everyone keeps talking about the calendar idea this would be a cool opportunity to create that StarCraft claendar everyone keeps talking about.
