Re: Poll on operating and maintenance costs -

But I am going fishing tommorow and will go clean /prep boat for about an hour now even though I cleaned her post use. My fishing buddy will give me $40 (we will be out about 8 hrs) and bring the Ice and he will wonder if I am asking to much from him.

That is too funny I think we have the same fishing buddy.:D
I like stopping at the fuel dock on the way in and watching thier jaws drop when it takes 150-200gal and they hand you a 20 with thier head down and run with thier fish. but the ones who stay and help wash down the boat always get invited back.

I spend $1k to $3k a year on my boat, and it's a Fish n' Ski. I spend around 30% of my time on the boat just for fun, around 50% of my time on the boat fishing, and the other 20% is spent in it on dry land fixing the problems when they come up. ;)

Ya- when I really think about it and consider all the "optional" things I usually do plus the stuff you often forget (lower unit change, new plugs, etc.) it probably goes to $2K. Ooops. Sorry- you didn't want to know :-|

Re: Poll on operating and maintenance costs -

My wife, two daughters, our Brittany, and I love our boat. So it is no surprise to me when I tried to figure out what it costs per year to run her. All is more than worth it! When I think about what I spend on cleaners, wax, and other misc. things like that, then try to figure what fuel, oils, props, grease...the list goes on, it's mind blowing. I didn't even figure in what my tow vehicle cost to operate when trailering to and from:confused: (Think I need to change my answer teach) Any way...wouldn't trade for the world.

I have friends with pools that give me a hard time, I tell them I have a pool, and I can take it with me anywhere I want to go:)

I know what you mean - but on a smaller scale. I really can't imagine - nor do I want to - the fabric of my life without a boat or fishing woven in.

I don't have cable or satellite tv, I don't have a health club membership, I don't have a time share, I don't have a mortgage- I rent. But not having the boat ready to go fishing is out of the question! I regret the several different years when my kids were younger when I didn't spend the $$ to get the boat ready to get wet, tow a tube and catch a few fish.

I feel very fortunate to live in the USA. My personal economy is wealthy and blessed when compared to most of the world's peoples. When I struggle I am still eating and I have my coffee every morning; when my daughter has to make "option b" choices about college, she still has a way to go to college; and when I am really low on funds after a tough-economy winter, I still have a boat for pleasure. I thank God for this.

I don't feel guilty for spending money to go boating, and I certainly am not extravagant. However, in light of how blessed we are in this country, when I think of how fortunate I have been, I am motivated to give money towards world hunger relief.

Why do I write this this morning? I guess I am feeling a little contemplative after listening to a bunch of graduation addresses recently and my daughter's Baccalaureate service the other day. With all the foreclosures and all the tough times, we still have it good here in America.

Don't forget not all boats are on a trailer. I have to include annual dockage ($1000 to $2500) to just tie to a dock during the week. Then include winterizing and sling costs. WOW ! - its getting expensive even before I start the engine.

Last weekend we would also have to include dockage at PIB and of course the usual entertainment charges for adult beverages and food. You do this several times a season and pretty soon your thinking maybe you should take up golfing in Bermuda.

Dont you just love it !
